Full-Potting and Semi-Potting for IP67 Waterproof Drivers

Silicone full-potting and semi-potting encapsulation for LED drivers up to 2000 W, achieving IP67 in all-aluminium housings with integrated cable glands.

Fully-potted IP67 Towe outdoor drivers sealed in aluminium housings against rain and dust
TD series: full-pot, IP67, 24 W–2000 W with constant voltage and constant current control.
Short answer

Potting seals a driver’s electronics in silicone so water, dust and humidity cannot reach live components. Towe runs full-potting and semi-potting lines serving waterproof drivers from 7 W to 2000 W in aluminium housings with integrated cable glands, achieving IP67 on outdoor families with 3 to 5 year warranties.

When this process applies

Full potting encapsulates primary and secondary sides and is used on the TB, TH, TD and TY families. Semi-potting covers the high-voltage side only and is used on indoor and semi-exposed series where cost matters and the environment is sealed.

Where it is the right choice

  • Facade, landscape and street lighting exposed to rain and irrigation
  • Humid interiors: cold storage, greenhouses, wash-down areas
  • Coastal and high-humidity export markets in the Gulf and Southeast Asia
  • Light boxes mounted outdoors where condensation is unavoidable

Where it is the wrong choice

Stating this explicitly matters more than a capability list: if your part falls into one of these categories, another process will cost you less.

  • Submersible or in-ground underwater fixtures — IP68 immersion is not our rating
  • Applications needing field serviceability — a potted driver is not repairable by design

Equipment

  • Potting dosing lines for full and semi-pot processes
  • Hipot insulation test stations
  • Sealed-housing aging — waterproof units burn in fully assembled
  • Vacuum and void verification during dosing

Process questions

Why do potted drivers fail if potting is done badly?

Air voids in the encapsulant become condensation pockets, and thermal cycling pumps moisture into them until a track or joint fails. That is why our potting is verified for voids and every unit is hipot-tested after sealing.

What is the practical difference between full and semi potting?

Full potting seals everything and supports the longest warranties in wet locations; semi-potting seals the high-voltage side and costs less for sealed indoor environments. We will tell you which one your installation actually needs instead of upselling.

Can you pot a driver to my housing design?

For OEM projects within our engineering range, yes — potting parameters are set per housing geometry and verified with pilot units before mass production.

Is the potting compound thermally conductive?

Yes. The silicone compound carries heat from the components into the aluminium housing, which is how fully-potted units hold full rated power without external heat sinks.
